Pamela Eaton has been named the new executive director of the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization, the island's transportation planning agency.

Eaton was unanimously approved by the MPO Policy Board and will begin her new role on Nov. 7. She is currently the chief of the Maui County Planning Department's Long-Range Planning Division.

"She can hit the ground running," said Board Chairperson Yuki Lei Sugimura. "Pam already has her hands on Maui MPO programs, and in addition to her wealth of knowledge and experience in transportation projects, we look forward to her leadership in this new position."

Eaton served as the first chairperson and continues to serve on the MPO's Technical Advisory Committee.

In her new role, she will help ensure compliance and facilitate the MPO's ongoing projects, such as updating its Public Participation Plan, presentation of the final draft plan of the West Maui Greenway, the Transit-Oriented Plan "i mua Kahului," and will carry on existing programs like the MPO's long-range transportation plan Hele Maui 2040, Vision Zero Maui and the Transportation Improvement Plan.

Eaton holds a bachelor's degree in American government and economics from Georgetown University and a master's degree in marine policy and oceanography from the University of Rhode Island.
