Police arrest woman for refusing to leave man’s apartment

WAILUKU — A woman was arrested Sunday morning after she allegedly walked into a man’s apartment in Wailuku and refused to leave.

Sara Baylor, 48, was charged with second-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling.

According to a declaration filed in court to support the charges, Baylor knocked on the screen door of the unit at Hale O Mana’o Lana Hou on Mahalani Street at 10:45 a.m. and asked the resident if he had medical marijuana for sale. When the resident told her she wasn’t in the right place, Baylor walked into the residence and refused to leave for about 45 minutes, according to the declaration.

“She was allegedly inebriated and had an empty bottle of vodka that most likely she had consumed,” Deputy Prosecutor Jeffery Temas said during Baylor’s initial appearance Monday in Wailuku District Court.

He asked for bail to remain at $1,000 for Baylor, who has been in the state for several years.

While she has no criminal convictions, 2016 cases against her were dismissed in courts on Oahu and Maui after she didn’t return to court following initial appearances, Temas said. He said there’s a pending bench warrant for Baylor on Kauai.

“When she’s ordered to come back, whether it’s the 1st Circuit, this Circuit or the 5th Circuit, she never does,” Temas said.

Deputy Public Defender Joan Tuers asked for Baylor, who is homeless, to be released on her own recognizance.

Judge Chris Dunn kept bail at $1,000. Baylor was ordered to stay away from the resident and the apartment complex, including its parking lots.
