Wade Maeda was sworn in as Maui County deputy police chief Wednesday at the Wailuku Police Station.

Chief John Pelletier administered the oath of office and Maeda’s wife, Ruth, presented his badge.

“We are very fortunate to have personnel of the caliber of Deputy Chief Maeda to lead MPD forward as a cohesive and forward-thinking organization,” Pelletier said in a news release.

Maeda joined the department in 1997 when he began his career as police officer I in Wailuku Patrol. He rose through the ranks, and his most recent assignment was acting assistant chief of the Investigative Services Division this year.

He and his wife, Ruth, have three children.
