The massive brush fire that broke out on Nov. 8 in West Maui is now 90 percent contained, and the area burned remains at 2,100 acres, fire officials said Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, strong winds at the upper elevations of the burn, which started a week ago near Kauaula Valley, exposed some hot spots, which the department's Air 1 helicopter addressed.
The hot spots were well within the burn perimeter and did not threaten to spread farther.
Personnel will continue to monitor the area.
