NICK KRAU, Promoted to lieutenant

Nick Krau, a veteran of more than 20 years in the Maui Police Department, has been promoted to lieutenant.

Krau joined the department in 2000, beginning his career as a police officer in the Kihei Patrol District before transferring to the DUI Task Force in the Traffic Section in 2004. In 2009, he was assigned to the Plans, Training, Research and Development Section. After being promoted to sergeant in 2012, he worked in the Communications Section and Wailuku Patrol District.

In 2014, he returned to the Traffic Section and headed the DUI Task Force until this year when he was assigned to the Wailuku Patrol District.

Krau is a member of the MPD Crisis Negotiations Team and Peer Support Team, and is a firearms instructor.

He is Maui Chapter chairperson for the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers.

Krau was selected as Hawaii State Law Enforcement Officials Association Officer of the Year for MPD in 2006 after making nearly 300 DUI arrests in a 10-month time span.

His promotion takes effect Jan. 16.
