Lahaina Shingon Mission Rev. Takayuki Meguro removes the casing of a chairlift to reach its worn-out batteries on Jan. 11. Rev. Meguro said mechanical duties like swapping new batteries for old are all part of a one-man operation where he is both minister and maintenance man. The mission on Luakini Street was founded out of a small house in 1902. According to its website, Odaishi-Ko Worship is held on the 20th of every month at 7 p.m., a Goma fire ritual is conducted every 28th at 10 a.m. and Hokoji Class is held on the first Sunday of the month at 9 a.m. Services are open to the public.
