The Maui Police Department released body camera footage from the officer who fatally shot a 29-year-old man at a Kahului home on Thursday.
The officer was responding to a report of a suicidal male at about 7 p.m. and arrived on scene to find a man wearing a shirt covered in blood from self-inflicted wounds, according to police.
Police say he was wielding a “long-pointed object” and told to stop multiple times as he charged the officer and was shot. The entire incident took 47 seconds.
Officers attempted CPR and he was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he died later that night. Police identified the man Tuesday as Reynaldo Ricarde.
