Five nominated to serve as 2nd Circuit Court judge

Three per diem judges, a prosecuting attorney and an assistant administrator are being considered to serve as circuit judge in 2nd Circuit Court on Maui.

The Judicial Selection Committee reviewed all applicants and submitted the five nominees to Gov. Josh Green, who will nominate a successor to replace retired Judge Richard Bissen Jr., who was elected Maui County mayor last year.

The nominees are:

• Ryan Anderson-Teshima, who is currently the deputy prosecuting attorney for Maui County. He is a graduate of Southwestern Law School.

• Lance Collins, who is currently a per diem District Court judge and a University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law graduate.

• Michelle Drewyer, who currently serves as a per diem judge in District and Family Court in the 2nd Circuit. She is a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

• Brandon Flores, who is currently an assistant administrator within the Child Support Enforcement Agency in the Department of the Attorney General. He is a graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law.

• Erika Ireland, who is a per diem judge of the District Court of the First Circuit on Oahu, and a graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law.

Green must make his appointment within 30 days, or by March 18. The public may provide comments on the nominees via the governor's website at governor.hawaii.gov/contact-us/contact-the-governor/.
