Hospital, union to resume negotiations
Maui Health and United Public Workers will resume negotiations with a federal mediator at 10 a.m. Monday, the union announced.
The two sides are working to come to an agreement after nearly 500 workers who are represented by the union at Maui Health’s three hospitals voted last week to reject Maui Health’s final offer and go on strike.
UPW State Director Kalani Werner said the scheduled negotiations are “a positive step forward in our fight for fair wages and working conditions.”
The striking workers include nurses’ aides, respiratory therapists, housekeepers, cooks and other workers at Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital.
Maui Health has said all facilities continue to remain open and that it is working with community providers to make sure patient care continues. The Emergency Department remains available 24/7.
