A walk on the wild side

FIRST PHOTO: Linda Tsark of Oahu, a volunteer with Assistance League of Hawaii and Operation Wildlife, shows Wailuku Elementary School fourth graders a stuffed mongoose during a presentation in the school cafeteria Wednesday morning. The students first learned about environmental challenges that threaten the world's plants and animals and also ways that they can make a difference in protecting them. They got a chance to touch a variety of natural items such as pelts from beaver, elephant and leopard, skulls of tiger and bobcat and an elephant tusk. At the end of her presentation, volunteer chairperson Hazel Sumile asked the students, "What are you going to do to help keep your environment healthy and safe?"
