The state Department of Health has issued a red "closed" placard to Cafe Mambo after noting cockroaches and improper food storage at the Paia restaurant.
During a routine inspection on Tuesday, a DOH inspector observed food safety violations that included roaches, flies entering the kitchen doorway and a risk of other pests getting in, and a lack of proper temperature control for cold food storage.
Before Cafe Mambo can reopen to the public, the Health Department is requiring the restaurant to take the following corrective actions:
• Professional pest control treatment to eradicate the pests.
• Pest service invoices provided to the district inspector.
• Deep cleaning to eliminate all potential pest food sources.
• Screening at the kitchen doorway to reduce pest entry when the door is left open.
A follow-up inspection is scheduled for today.
The restaurant is located at 30 Baldwin Ave. and is operated by Betham Pacific LLC.
