Members of the Maui Fire Department, the Maui County Council, Mayor Richard Bissen Jr. and family of the late Maui County firefighter Tre' Evans-Dumaran pose for a photo Friday morning in Council Chambers after the council passed a ceremonial resolution extending its condolences to Evans-Dumaran's family. The 24-year-old firefighter died after he was swept through a storm drain as he was responding to flooded homes in Kihei on Jan. 27. Evans-Dumaran was born on Maui on April 1, 1998 and graduated in 2016 from Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i, where he was an all-star in football and track and field, according to the resolution. He graduated from the Department of Fire and Public Safety's 35th recruit class on Dec. 27, 2019. When not working, he enjoyed tinkering on helicopters and cars and making people laugh. In addition to caring for the community as a public servant, he also regularly donated blood, carried a 270-piece tool kit to assist anyone in need and showed a deep love for his family and colleagues.
