Maui Land & Pineapple has named Race Randle as its new CEO and Scot Sellers as its new chairman starting April 1 as longtime CEO/Chairman Warren Haruki steps down.
"I am honored to return home to Hawai'i and lead one of Maui's most storied companies," Randle said in a news release Monday. "I look forward to bringing my experiences developing thriving, sustainable communities to MLP, which is uniquely positioned to improve the quality of life on Maui for current and future generations."
Randle was born and raised in Hawaii and spent much of his youth on Maui, surfing with his family at Honolua Bay, according to the news release. He has worked in real estate for the past two decades, including as senior vice president of The Howard Hughes Corporation and more recently as executive vice president at Lendlease. He also serves on the Hawaii advisory board for the Trust for Public Land.
Randle is in the process of moving his family to Maui.
Sellers, the incoming chairman, has 40 years of experience developing homes and communities across the country. He served as chairman and CEO of multifamily housing company Archstone, and has also spent many years on the international board for Habitat for Humanity. He currently serves as a director for several real estate companies, including The Howard Hughes Corporation, Inspirato, Milhaus and The Irvine Company.
Sellers said he's worked with Randle for many years, including on the Ward Village development in Honolulu, and described him as "the ideal CEO to lead MLP into its next chapter."
Haruki, who has led the company for the past 14 years, will continue to serve as a senior adviser, assisting Randle and Sellers as they assume their new roles.
"It has been an honor to lead MLP for the past 14 years, and I look forward to working with Race and Scot to ensure a smooth transition," Haruki said. "We've made great progress in returning the company to profitability. I'm proud of what we've accomplished, grateful for the team at MLP and the community support that made it possible and excited about MLP's future."
Maui Land & Pineapple Co. develops, manages and sells real estate on Maui. It oversees about 22,000 acres that include the Kapalua Resort.
