County unemployment rate at 3.4 percent in March

Unemployment in Maui County last month was at 3.4 percent, up from 3.2 percent in February, according to recent statistics released from Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism.

Last month’s numbers were not far behind from March 2022, when unemployment for the county was at 3.2 percent.

Unemployment for Maui island was at 3.4 percent in March, up from 3.2 percent in February and also up from 3.2 percent in March 2022.

Unemployment on Molokai was at 5.1 percent in March, up from 4.7 percent in February, but down compared to a 5.4 percent rate in March 2022.

On Lanai, unemployment in March was at 2.8 percent, up from 1.9 percent in February, but down from the 3.8 percent unemployment seen in March 2022.

Statewide, the unemployment rate in March was at 3.1 percent, a tick down from February where the rate was 3.2 percent. In March 2022, the unemployment rate was at 3 percent.

Last month the unemployment rate in Honolulu City and County was at 2.9 percent, in Hawaii County it was 3.5 percent and in Kauai County it was 3 percent.

The county and island rates are not seasonally adjusted, meaning it did not take into account seasonal hiring and layoff patterns. A seasonally adjusted breakdown was not available by county.

The seasonally adjusted state unemployment rate was at 3.5 percent in March.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was also at 3.5 percent.
