The Ho'oikaika Partnership will be holding virtual and in-person activities in Maui County in April in observance of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Established in 2008, the Ho'oikaika Partnership is a coalition of community organizations, individuals, county and state agencies committed to preventing child abuse and neglect in Maui County, according to a news release from the organization.
The activities and programs, which aim to strengthen ohana, support the healthy development of keiki and prevent child maltreatment, include:
• Ho'oikaika Partnership monthly meeting on Zoom, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Guests include Child Welfare Services Assistant Program Development Administrators Charlotte Kamauoha and Rachel Thorburn, who will discuss Family First Hawai'i. Mai Hall, children's health coordinator with Hawai'i Children's Action Network, also will present about a new community-based child abuse prevention funded program to provide concrete support for Maui County families. • Molokai Keiki and Youth Fests at Mitchell Pauole Center, 8 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. April 15, presented by Molokai Community Action Team. The deadline to register is Monday. For more information, visit bit.ly/MolokaiFests.
• "Talking Is Teaching: Talk Read Sing Campaign as a Collective Community Strategy" from 1 to 1:50 p.m. April 20 and "Utilizing Navigation Services to Link Families with Resources" from 9:45 to 10:35 a.m. April 21. Both sessions will be presented by Ho'oikaika Partnership System Navigator Heidi Allencastre at the Kahawai Summit for Early Childcare Providers. • 2nd annual Ho'oikaika 'Ohana Fest at Maui Botanical Gardens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22 for families eligible for services with partner agencies. Park alongside the road and bring a blanket to hang out on the grounds. For more information, visit bit.ly/2023OhanaFest.
