A foundation created to honor late Maui firefighter Tre' Evans-Dumaran will host events around the state to celebrate his life and raise funds for community causes and scholarships.
The Live Like Tre' Foundation will hold events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14 at the Hannibal Tavares Center on Maui, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 at the UH-Hilo Gym on Hawaii island and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 8 at the Mitchell Pauole Center on Molokai. All events will include fun family activities, music, food and more. Participants can share their words or thoughts with Evans-Dumaran at his slideshow corner and explore the fire truck, among other activities.
Funds raised through the events will support efforts to make the community better through small acts of kindness projects. The foundation will also offer scholarship opportunities with a focus on student-athletes in single-parent households, students who have the desire to become a pilot and students born to teen parents. Funding will also be available for training and uniforms for new and upcoming firefighters.
"Tre' was a kind and generous soul who touched many lives, and we hope that Live Like Tre' Day will inspire others to follow his steps, and continue his legacy," his mom, Chelsie Evans, said in a news release.
Evans-Dumaran died days after he was swept through a storm drain while responding to flooding in Kihei in late January. The foundation was created to continue his legacy of kindness and generosity. It aims to spread happiness and kindness "by amplifying small acts of kindness, giving with heart, living with passion, dreaming the possibilities, supporting 'ohana and creating a big impact," the news release said.
