Flags lowered to honor Texas victims
The U.S. and Hawaii state flags will be flown at half-staff through sunset on May 11 at the State Capitol and all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawaii National Guard, in honor of the victims killed in Texas over the weekend.
“We lower the flags in solemn remembrance of the victims of gun violence in Allen, Texas and with healing wishes for all the families and loved ones who are hurting,” Gov. Josh Green said in a news release Monday. “Every leader in America needs to work together to prevent these kinds of tragedies from happening.”
Eight people were killed and several more injured when a gunman opened fire at a Dallas-area mall on Saturday before he was fatally shot by a police officer.
A day after the tragedy, eight more people were killed and 10 injured when a man drove his car through a crowd of people near the border in Brownsville, Texas.
