Mikey Mina to perform Thursday
Local musician and singer Mikey Mina will perform a free concert at 6 p.m. Thursday on the front lawn of the Baldwin Home Museum in Lahaina.
Seating will be on the lawn and the low rock wall. Limited chairs will be available. Attendees can bring their own blankets, mats or low-back beach chairs.
The concert is part of the Lahaina Restoration Foundation's Hawaiian Music Series.

Kea Lani to host fundraiser
To honor the legacy of the late local chef Tylun Pang, Fairmont Kea Lani will host a two-night fundraiser dinner for Maui Culinary Academy students at 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the resort's Ko restaurant.
Funds raised will go to the Tylun Pang Aspiring Chef Scholarship, which is awarded to Maui Culinary Academy students annually. Pang established the scholarship program in 2012.
Ko Executive Chef Aris Aurelio, Kea Lani Pastry Chef Amber Ching and Tylun Pang Chef of the Year Award recipient Taylor Ponte will prepare a five-course, wine-paired dinner with the help of Maui Culinary Academy students.

Volunteers sought for Haleakala service trip
The Friends of Haleakala National Park is seeking enthusiastic and fit volunteers for a strenuous three-night backpacking service trip into the park's wilderness areas May 27-30.
Volunteers will hike into the crater and spend three nights in the Paliku Wilderness Ranger Cabin. They will remove invasive plant species to protect native plants and nene habitat, according to a news release from the nonprofit.
Participants must be physically capable of being in the outdoors and at higher elevations, walking on uneven terrain up to five miles each shift and carrying a backpack with a sleeping bag and other items.
Safety equipment and tools will be provided by Haleakala National Park.

Virtual bon dance class offered
AARP Hawaii is offering a free virtual bon dance class at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Participants will learn basic bon dance steps, movements and the history and cultural significance of the Obon season and bon dancing.

Boating week event set for Saturday
As part of National Safe Boating Week, the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Guard will host a free event from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Kihei Boat Ramp.
There will be safe boating information, services, kids' activities and a free recreational vessel safety exam by the Coast Guard Auxiliary. There will also be free orange stickers for kayaks and SUP boards to help recover them if they are lost and Mayor Richard Bissen will issue a National Safe Boating Week Proclamation.

Mental health program offered
To commemorate Mental Health Month in May, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Hawaii/Big Island Affiliate will offer its free, virtual Family-to-Family educational program from 9 a.m. to noon on eight consecutive Saturdays beginning May 27.
Family-to-Family is an eight-session education program for family, friends and significant others of adults with mental health conditions. The program provides information about anxiety, depressive disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other mental health conditions. Other topics covered include communication, problem solving, treatment and recovery.
Family-to-Family will be presented virtually via Zoom. Space is limited to 20 participants. Advance registration is required.
