Surrounded by fresh flowers, Maui Blooms floral designer Zara Mendelson creates a Mother's Day bouquet Thursday afternoon in Kihei. Mendelson said she uses the messages on the cards and the flowers available to help inspire her to create the "designer's choice" arrangements offered by Maui Blooms. "I like the freedom of being creative," Mendelson said. "I use whatever color of flowers or combination I want." Business owner Sandy Ioakimi said Mother's Day was her busiest holiday of the year by far. "You definitely don't want to forget your mother," Ioakimi said.
