Maui County unemployment down to 2.8%

Maui County’s unemployment rate last month was at 2.8 percent, down compared to 3.4 percent in March, the Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism reported last week.

Unemployment last month in the county was also down from the 3.2 percent seen in April 2022.

Maui island’s unemployment rate was at 2.8 percent in April, which is down from 3.4 percent in March and down compared to 3.2 percent in April 2022.

On Molokai, the unemployment rate in April was at 4.6 percent, down compared to 5.1 percent in March and down compared to 5.6 percent in April 2022.

Lanai’s unemployment rate was at 2.5 percent in April, down compared to 2.8 percent in March but higher than the 2.3 percent unemployment rate in April 2022.

The state’s overall not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 2.7 percent. Honolulu’s unemployment rate last month was 2.6 percent, Hawaii County had a 3.0 percent unemployment rate and Kauai’s unemployment rate was at 2.6 percent.

Nationwide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.4 percent in April, slightly down compared to 3.5 percent in March. In April 2022, the nation’s unemployment rate was 3.6 percent.

In Hawaii, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in April was 3.3 percent, up compared to 3.5 percent in March. In April 2022, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Hawaii was 3.3 percent.

April’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate reflects 656,400 persons who were employed and 22,500 were unemployed, for a total seasonally adjusted labor force of 678,900 statewide.

The non-seasonally adjusted figures means that it did not take into account seasonal hiring and layoff patterns. A seasonally adjusted breakdown was not available by county.
