Maui resident Kamaile Pahukoa, creator of the Ke'anae Market at Ke'anae Congregational Church, was named as one of five faith-rooted Invested Faith Fellows.
The five social innovators are working to address systemic issues of injustice in their communities while building a sustainable financial model, according to a news release from the Washington, D.C.-based organization.
Each Fellow receives a $5,000 unrestricted grant and an invitation to tell their story through the Invested Faith community and website.
Invested Faith has now awarded 32 Fellowships in less than two years.
Pahukoa, granddaughter of one of the Ke'anae Congregational Church members, created the market to offer local vendors, farmers and artists a chance to sell their products on the heavily traveled Road to Hana.
Invested Faith is a fund for faith-rooted social innovators founded by Rev. Dr. Amy Butler in 2019 in response to declining church attendance and the need for a new model of philanthropy. The fund is located at ImpactAssets, leading facilitator of direct impact investing within donor-advised funds.
