A total of $689,064 was raised across Hawaii and the Pacific during the 2022 Red Kettles holiday campaign, The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division announced Wednesday.
Donations to Red Kettles were up about 4.6 percent from the 2021 season. A breakdown of funding was not available by county.
In addition, 30,283 Angel Tree gifts were distributed to keiki and kupuna, and more than 6,000 Thanksgiving meals were provided statewide.
Divisional Commander Maj. Troy Trimmer said that the donations support social service programs. Trimmer also thanked volunteers and employees who rang bells, helped sort and gather Angel Tree gifts and passed out Thanksgiving meals, as well as retailers, malls and businesses that provided space for the Red Kettles and Angel Trees.
As part of The Salvation Army's Love Beyond Christmas campaign, customers at all Foodland and Sack N Save stores were able to donate at checkout through Foodland's "Share a Holiday Feast" program. In addition, Aloha Kia locations statewide collected household item donations, and Burger King Hawaii partnered with Aloha United Way to collect more than $5,000 to support the keiki portion of the program.
