Multiple local businesses -- a fishing apparel company, a football fan store and the hub for a longtime Maui band -- have opened new locations or extended leases at Maui's major malls.
Maui Mall Village added a new store, Purebred Fisherman, a well-known fishing apparel brand that opened next to Color Nail Salon and Spa on June 7.
Purebred Fisherman offers branded fishing shirts, hats, amphibian shorts, sweaters, accessories and more, according to a mall news release Monday. The business has operated exclusively online since 2014.
"We are excited to open our store at Maui Mall Village for the convenience of all of our loyal customers and those who are yet to discover our unique brand," said Ron Shum, owner of Purebred Fisherman. "We strive to provide performance, comfort, and style to those who share our same passion for fishing and the one-of-a-kind lifestyle it offers. We invite all fishermen -- both kama'aina and visitors -- to drop by soon."
The store hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Sunday and Monday. For more information, visit www.purebredfisherman.com.
Meanwhile, at nearby Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, Football Fanatics will be relocating to a new 5,000-square-foot flagship store in the former Champs location, with a soft opening set for June 26, the mall announced Friday. Football Fanatics, which offers products for all 32 NFL teams, opened at the mall in October. It's the business' fourth location.
"In less than one month after opening, we knew we were going to outsell our space," owner Ron Jackson said. "And now with a space five times as large, we'll have a game viewing area with theatre seats, bar stools, and look forward to being able to offer apparel very soon."
Football Fanatics also has distribution warehouse locations on Oahu and in Wailuku, allowing shoppers to order in store and receive online shipments in two to three business days, according to a mall news release.
Another mall tenant, Ekolu Music and Apparel, has decided to extend its lease after initially opening in November with a commitment for six months. The store has featured regular jam sessions as well as logo gear including hats, long-sleeve dri-fit shirts, T-shirts and music by the longtime Maui reggae band, whose 12th album will be coming out soon.
"We could see how much love our fans from all over Hawai'i and the world have for Ekolu," said Lukela Keala, owner and lead singer of Ekolu. "Now we can meet fans from all over the world throughout the year and be the 'must-stop shop' before they head back home to wherever they are from."
