A 61-year-old Pukalani man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for a hit-and-run collision in 2021 that killed a 52-year-old Kula woman.

Second Circuit Court Judge Kirstin Hamman handed down the sentence to Daniel Edward Fowler, who pleaded guilty to first-degree negligent homicide along with one charge of accidents involving death or serious bodily injury, court records show.

He is charged with causing the death of Mia Medor, who died on July 10, 2021, two weeks after the collision on June 27, 2021.

According to police, the incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. in Makawao. Medor was walking on the side of Makani Road when she was hit by a vehicle that had turned onto the road from Haleakala Highway and went onto the grass shoulder.

Fowler fled the scene without rendering aid, according to court records. After the collision, Medor was transported to the hospital, where she later died.

Police arrested Fowler last year after an extensive investigation.

Starting at $4.62/week.
