The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will show two movies as part of its Starry Night Cinema on Aug. 18 and 19 in the A&B Amphitheater.
"The Mitchells vs. the Machines" will screen on Aug. 18. The movie follows young Katie Mitchell on a road trip with her family to start her first year at film school. But their bonding plans are interrupted when the world's electronic devices come to life to stage an uprising. The film is rated PG.
"Marcel The Shell With Shoes On" will screen on Aug. 19. The film follows a 1-inch-tall shell, his grandmother Connie and their pet lint, Alan, the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy in their once-sprawling community of shells. When a filmmaker puts a spotlight on Marcel, it brings him millions of fans, unprecedented dangers and a new hope at finding his long-lost family. The film is rated PG.
Admission is free, with no registration required. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the film starts at 7:30 p.m.
Attendees should bring low-back beach chairs and/or blankets. There will be live music and a free keiki art activity. Food and beverages will be available.
If the weather is inclement, the films will be shown in the Castle Theater, with first-come, first-served seating.
No coolers or outside beverages, including bottled water, are allowed.
