A loader that the state Department of Transportation said was stolen from Maalaea was recovered in Waiehu on Tuesday morning.
The Case Loader 521D was last seen Saturday when it was staged off Honoapiilani Highway and North Kihei Road, the department said Monday.
In a news release Tuesday, the department thanked community members who helped in the recovery and said mechanics will add safeguards to the loader before it returns to service for maintenance operations in West Maui.
The department did not say how the loader was found or who might have taken it.
