Damages are estimated at $8,000 for a catamaran-type vessel that caught on fire at Maalaea Boat Harbor early Thursday morning, fire officials said.
The incident occurred around 3:55 a.m. and fire crews arrived on scene to find the boat fully involved with fire, according to the Maui Fire Department.
Crews extinguished the fire and confirmed no one was on board.
Engine 10, Rescue 10 and Tanker 10, all from Kahului, responded to the blaze. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources also responded to the scene.
MFD said their response concluded at 6:39 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
DLNR told The Maui News on Thursday that it "had just impounded the vessel from the offshore mooring area and relocated it to the Maalaea harbor."
"As this is an active investigation, we cannot provide comment at this time," a DLNR spokesperson said in response to questions over why it was confiscated and whether the boat posed any hazards.
