Kekaulike HS Foundation awards 8 scholarships

The Kekaulike High School Foundation has awarded eight scholarships to students planning to continue their post-secondary education at two- or four-year institutions or vocational-technical schools.
A $1,000 Susan Scofield Scholarship was awarded to Maja Szpunar, who will attend University of Hawai'i at Manoa this fall with plans to major in biology.
Two $1,000 Sue and Aki Nakashima Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Ryley Jackson and Wei Ting Hsu. Jackson will attend Pacific University, where she will major in biology. Hsu will attend UH-Manoa with plans to major in psychology.
Two $2,500 Kukui Malamalama Scholarships were awarded to Summer DeRego and Joshua Saxton. DeRego will attend Grand Canyon University, where she will major in biology. Saxton will attend American Musical and Dramatic Academy with plans to major in acting.
Two $600 Debbie Hisashima Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Szpunar and Kaitlin Kitagawa, who will attend Clara University and major in biomedical engineering.
A $500 Kekaulike High School Foundation Scholarship was awarded to Maya Ito, who will attend Whitman College with plans to major in psychology.
The scholarship recipients were selected based on their academic achievement, community service, character and financial need.
