Port Town Texaco in Kahului was allowed to restart food sales to the public on Monday after a rodent infestation forced its closure on Thursday.
The state Department of Health conducted an initial inspection on Thursday in response to a complaint and confirmed evidence of an active rodent infestation with numerous rodent droppings as well as harborage areas.
Inspectors from the DOH Food Safety and Vector Control branches conducted a follow-up inspection on Monday and determined that the establishment had eradicated the rodent infestation, cleaned all harborage areas, sealed openings and conducted professional pest control treatments as required, according to a DOH news release Monday.
To ensure the establishment remains in compliance, DOH is requiring it to:
• Have a professional pest control company conduct weekly pest control treatments and monitoring for the next four weeks and contact the DOH after each treatment to discuss findings.
• Continue sealing any other small openings within the walls and ceiling to prevent future pest entry.
Port Town Texaco is located at 109 W. Kaahumanu Ave. in Kahului and is owned and operated by Lahaina Petroleum LLC.
