Tough next steps in Lahaina

FIRST PHOTO: Ten-month-old Leoki Hardin grins at a volunteer at the Lahaina Gateway distribution site while waiting in line with mom Avery and brother Ari, 4, on Wednesday. The mother of two said having their apartment at the Kaiaulu o Kupuohi affordable housing complex destroyed by fire has been hard on the kids. She recalled banging on their neighbor's door to no avail as the flames closed. It was four long days answering questions about whether their friends were still alive, before the families happily reunited. "They want to know why, why, why," Avery Hardin said. "Nobody is giving answers. We don't know what to say." SECOND PHOTO: Aloha Malapira describes where her son lost his house while picking up supplies for him Saturday at Lahaina Gateway.
