The Maui Nui Law & Justice Academy is now accepting applications for its three-day legal intensive training for Maui County high school students Oct. 10-12, at UH-Maui College and the Wailuku Courthouse.
Applications will be accepted through Aug. 31. Approximately 24 students will be selected to participate in this year's academy. Airfare costs will be covered for participants traveling from Molokai and Lanai.
Modeled after the Richardson Law & Justice Summer Program, the academy aims to introduce high school students to issues of law and justice; build their skills in discussion, research, debate, analysis and advocacy; and provide them with the tools to become active and involved citizens, according to a news release.
Among other law-related educational activities, participants will take part in a mock trial, attend classes taught by lawyers and judges, meet judges and court staff, meet local attorneys and staff members, and visit the Waihee Coastal Dunes & Wetlands Refuge.
