A Maui County Council committee will meet at 9 a.m. today in Kaanapali to take testimony on a proposed recovery and resiliency plan in response to the Aug. 8 wildfires.
The Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee will meet in the Honoapiilani Ballroom at The Westin Maui Resort and Spa. No legislative action will be taken.
The council is collecting "as much public testimony as possible" so the eight standing committees can work on legislation based on community feedback, said Council Member Nohelani U'u-Hodgins, who chairs the committee.
The Westin Maui is located at 2365 Kaanapali Parkway. Free parking will be available at Whalers Village at 2435 Kaanapali Parkway, and county shuttle transportation will be provided between: The Westin Maui Resort and Spa, Aston Kaanapali Shores, Honua Kai, Aston Kaanapali Villas, Royal Lahaina, Kaanapali Beach Resort, Whalers Village, Hyatt Regency and Lahaina Civic Center.

At the meeting, residents will also be able to update their voter registration starting at 8:30 a.m.
Voter registration is important not only for the upcoming elections, but for validating residency, obtaining a replacement Hawaii driver's license that has been lost or destroyed and opening a post office box, the Office of the County Clerk said in a news release Tuesday. Many aid agencies also require proof of residency, which may be satisfied by showing proof of voter registration.
The registration will take place in the Honoapiilani Ballroom at The Westin Maui Resort and Spa.
Those who are unable to make it in person can register to vote, update their voter registration or confirm their voter registration address, can do so online at www.olvr.hawaii.gov. Residents will need their Hawaii driver's license or state ID and social security number. Those who do not have a driver's license or state ID can complete the paper form, available at elections.hawaii.gov/wp-content/uploads/VR-Form-English-02.15.22.pdf, and mail it or bring it to the Maui County Office of the County Clerk at 200 S. High St., Room 708 in the Kalana O Maui Building in Wailuku from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. A current phone number and email should be included on the application so the office can reach out with any questions on registration or issues with voting.
