Water restrictions lifted for more areas of Kula, Lahaina
The Maui News
Two more areas of upper Kula and Lahaina have been removed from the unsafe water advisory, the Maui County Department of Water Supply said Monday.
The county determined water is now safe for use in Lahaina Area 2, which includes Kanakea Place, Kanakea Loop and parts of Kahena Street, Kahako Street and Kaakolu Street, as well as Upper Kula Area 4, which covers Nunu Place, Kaalele Place, Malanani Drive and parts of Lower Kimo Drive and Kulamanu Circle.
Because water may have stagnated within homes and buildings in these areas, the department recommends customers flush their lines to remove any standing water in plumbing and pipes. Lines may be flushed by opening valves and letting the faucets run for at least 10 minutes.
Customers still under the unsafe water advisory should continue to avoid drinking or boiling their tap water, the department said. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants or letting water stand will not make the water safe. Bottled water or potable water provided by the county must be used for drinking (including making baby formula and juice), brushing teeth, making ice and food preparation. Customers in the advisory area are also advised to limit tap water use for hygiene purposes such as showers. The department warned that customers could get sick if they don’t follow the advisory.
