Council committee cancels meeting

The Maui County Council’s Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee canceled its 1:30 p.m. meeting on Tuesday to allow council members to attend the 22nd annual Native Hawaiian Convention at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

Council Member Nohe U’u-Hodgins, who chairs the committee, noted that many of the workshops and discussions focus on Lahaina recovery efforts and other related matters.

“I would like to ensure that the councilmembers and the public have every opportunity to be present for important community discussions, especially in relation to fire-recovery efforts,” U’u-Hodgins said in a news release Tuesday. The committee, which planned to discuss a resolution to develop a recovery and resiliency plan in response to the wildfires, is rescheduling the item for Nov. 28.
