The state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism is encouraging local small businesses to complete an annual survey by the Federal Reserve Banks.

The Fed is apolitical, independent and decentralized, and conducts the annual Small Business Credit Survey to capture unique data on small businesses, according to a DBEDT news release Tuesday. Data on small businesses is limited, especially on how and why they seek financing.

The survey takes 10 to 12 minutes to complete and is open to for-profit businesses with fewer than 500 employees. Businesses currently in operation, those recently closed and those about to launch can participate. All responses are confidential, and business owners do not need to provide any personal information.

"We want small business leaders and owners to share their recent experiences and perceptions, including how they rate the financial condition of their businesses if they sought loans or other lines of credit over the last year, or if they suffered losses from the wildfires," said Dennis Ling, administrator of DBEDT's Business Development and Support Division.

The survey is available at fedsmallbiz.org/3qR28Rh and closes at 3 p.m. Nov. 30.
