Dispute shuts down library mobile app
Most features of the Hawaii State Public Library System’s mobile app are no longer working as of Nov. 26 following a legal dispute between the state’s vendor, SirsiDynix, and that company’s third-party vendor, Solus, the state announced Friday.
The shutdown, which the state said happened without prior notification, has caused service disruptions to libraries and readers around the country.
At this point, Hawaii public library patrons may still use the barcode feature on the app to check out materials. Looking up books and other materials, placing holds, checking account information and all other features are not working at this time.
“Many of our patrons depend on the library’s mobile app, and we apologize for the confusion and frustration this has caused,” State Librarian Stacey Aldrich said in a news release Friday. “We are actively exploring options for restoring a mobile app solution and appreciate the patience of our patrons. In the meantime, patrons can access all their account information via My Account on the HSPLS website (librarieshawaii.org).”
Digital content, including ebooks and movies, are also available on the website.
