Foundation receives $5M donation
The Hawaii Community Foundation has received a $5 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
Seventy-five percent of the funds will be designated for the Maui Strong Fund and 25 percent will be allocated for the foundation's operating costs to support its ongoing relief efforts, according to a news release.
"We are honored that Ms. Scott continues to recognize and trust the Hawaii Community Foundation's ability to respond to the needs of our community," said Micah Kane, chief executive officer and president of Hawaii Community Foundation. "Ms. Scott's donation to the Maui Strong Fund and to Hawaii Community Foundation's operations will strengthen our organization's ability to make a positive impact on the people and places affected by the devastating Maui fires now and in the long term."
In 2020, Scott donated $10 million to the Hawaii Community Foundation's Hawaii Resilience Fund. The donation was part of a total of $4.2 billion in gifts from Scott to 384 organizations across the U.S. addressing basic needs and systemic inequities deepened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
