Blessing of the animals on Dec. 16
The annual "Blessing of the Animals" will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 16 at the historic Keawala'i Congregational Church in Makena.
Churches celebrate the blessing of animals in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures, a news release said.
Readings, prayers, and a blessing will be offered as well as pictures with Santa.
Arrangements for the day will take into account the needs of the various animals and includes dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, rabbits or any other pets. Dogs must be leashed at all times and other animals must be safely contained.

Virtue Women's Christmas on Monday
Author Kate Merrick is guest speaker for evening of fellowship hosted by Virtue Women's Ministry at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the barn at Harvest Kumulani on Office Road, across from Sansei in Kapalua.
Merrick has written "And Still She Laughs" and "Here, Now: Unearthing Peace and Presence in an Overconnected World."
Merrick's own journey to rebuild life after the devastating loss of her daughter, Daisy Love, has been a testimony of God's abiding presence and the healing power of hope even through deepest pain, a news release said.
The evening begins with dessert, Christmas music, testimonies from church members and a hope-filled message from the guest speaker.
Donations of Christmas decorations, including ornaments, will be accepted for those that lost their homes in the fires.
Merrick and her husband, Britt Merrick co-founded the family of Reality Churches, where Britt Merrick served as pastor for over 20 years before returning to surfboard shaping in the family business.
