The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a call at 5:05 a.m. Monday after a report the 55-foot ferry with three aboard had washed over the reef and ran aground. The ferry provides services to passengers and supplies sailing between Maalaea and the island of Lanai.

SECOND PHOTO: The Expeditions Five remains anchored near the Maalaea shore Tuesday morning. An update from the Dept. of Land and Natural Resources Tuesday afternoon said the fuel was removed from the grounded vessel Tuesday and the ferry company has hired a salvage company to remove and tow the vessel to Honolulu for repairs.
