The Rotary Club of Kahului is pleased to welcome Cassandra Abdul from Na Hale O Maui to its weekly meeting on Monday, January 8, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to the meeting at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, 2nd floor, across Hawaii Family Dental and next to Fine Island Properties.

Cassandra is a lifelong resident and a real estate professional for more than 40 years. Ms. Abdul, born and raised in Hawaii, spent most childhood vacations with maternal grandparents in Happy Valley and raised her children on Maui. She has been involved with real estate development, sales, management and planning for most of her adult life, holds an active real estate brokers license, is a Certified Property Manager and a Certified Commercial Investment Member.

Na Hale O Maui (NHPM) is a nonprofit Community Land Trust (CLT) with a mission to secure and preserve a permanent supply of affordable housing alternatives for low- to moderate-income households in Maui County.

NHOM was the first grassroots, membership based nonprofit CLT, created in 2006, in recognition of the continually mounting real estate prices and cost of living in Hawaii. The median income workforce family could not afford the median priced home in Hawaii. The Housing Affordability index, as of November 2023, reveals that the median household income is 32 percent of what is necessary to qualify for a median-priced home under prevailing interest rates. NHOM has acquired, rehabbed, and built approx. 50 homes since its inception, which were sold at under-market prices to Maui families earning between 80-140 percent of the Area Median Income for Maui County. Unfortunately, approx. 30 percent of the CLT homes in Lahaina perished in the August firefighters. NHOM is a steward for the families, homes, and land, and has been focused on supporting our families that were devastated by the wildfires.

Rotary International is a service organization whose mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Rotary's motto is Service Above Self.
