Tree planting ceremony
FIRST PHOTO: Kumu Pono Murray offers a Hawaiian chant to begin a ceremonial tree planting Tuesday afternoon at the Kapalua Plantation Course that included Maui firefighters and officials from Sentry Insurance and The Sentry PGA golf tournament which is scheduled to start this morning. The koa seedlings were transferred to larger pots before being planted in the Champions Garden at Wao kele o Honolua. Murray is also scheduled to take part in this morning’s opening ceremony for the $20 million, four-day, 72-hole tournament that features 59 of the top PGA golfers in the world. The tournament is set to conclude Sunday, with the winner to collect a $3.6 million paycheck. See page B1 for more about The Sentry tournament.
