Cruising Kahului in style

FIRST PHOTO: Kihei's Mark St. John pulls onto Hana Highway in Kahului Saturday afternoon after fueling up his vintage 1946 Indian Chief motorcycle. He said he was only running a few errands, but the next day planned to take his usual long Sunday ride where he might cover well over 100 miles cruising around Maui. He said he has three Indian motorcycles and that the brand is in his blood. "My dad rode an Indian," St. John said. "When my dad and mom were married, before he went into the Navy, the Indian was their only transportation. I had an Indian minibike when I was a kid." St. John said parts for the bikes have become harder to come by after all the attention the Indian brand has gotten on the television show American Pickers, especially by series star Mike Wolfe. "Those guys are killing me," he said with a smile.
