The Maui News

Maui organizers helping to bring The Wall That Heals, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica and Mobile Education Center, to Maui have released a schedule of events for the traveling exhibit’s visit starting next week.

On Wednesday, the Wall is to be escorted from Kahului Harbor to War Memorial Stadium, arriving about 5 p.m.

Construction begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, followed by a 5 p.m. welcome ceremony and 6 p.m. volunteer training. The Wall That Heals officially opens after the volunteer training Thursday. Entry is free and the Wall will be open 24 hours a day. Next Saturday, an Agent Orange Awareness and In Memory Ceremony will start at the stadium at 5:30 p.m. A Veterans Walk along the Wall is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, with all Maui vets invited to participate. A closing ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 American men and women who gave their lives in the war or remain missing, The Wall That Heals is a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., complete with a mobile Education Center.
