Free emergency preparedness workshops coming near you

KAHULUI–The Preparing Our Neighbors and Ohana (PONO) Emergency Preparedness workshop is having its kickoff on March 16th in Kihei and will be offered at different locations in Maui County through November. The training is being offered by the University of Hawai’i at Manoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) Cooperative Extension and is sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture Rapid Response Grant Award No 2024-67019-41641.
PONO eligible participants are all Maui County youth (13+) or adults that are full time residents. Everyone that attends will practice first aid and fire suppression skills, learn about fire wise landscaping and take home native plants, start an emergency kit, engage in stress management, and learn about available mental health support resources.
Specific workshop sites and times are being finalized but save the date for your community!
• March 16, 2024 – Kickoff in Kihei
• April 20, 2024 – Hāna
• July 27, 2024 – Moloka’i
• September 14, 2024 – Central Maui
• October 19, 2024 – Upcountry
• November 2, 2024 – Lahaina
There is no cost to attend the workshop and free emergency supplies will be available to take home after the training is completed.
