FIRST PHOTO: Makawao Elementary School fifth graders Kamalani Criste, 11, (left) and Alex Meyer, 11, enjoy a snack in front of RoadDogs hot dog stand after helping owner Kelsey Edens drum up business by taking turns dressed in her hot dog costume Wednesday afternoon at the Makawao Marketplace on Baldwin Avenue. The two young pals said friendship is golden. "It means someone you can trust with your life," Meyer said. "We both know everything about each other," Meyer said. "There are no secrets. You both understand and trust each other." It also makes room for goofy jokes. A giggling Criste said, "Yesterday when we were eating hot dogs, she said, 'Cannibals.'"
