The Maui Fair Alliance announced Tuesday they will not hold the Maui Fair in 2024, and will cease operations after 98 years of fairs and events for the Maui community. The county fair was last held in the fall of 2019 and has not operated since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The fair alliance board said in a press release Tuesday that they are “ending its operations and will allow other groups to organize and hold festivals.

Avery Chumbley, chair of the alliance board said the alliance is immensely proud of the legacy and impact they have had on the community.

In 2020 through 2021, the fair was canceled due to the ongoing public health concerns related to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022 and 2023, operation and logistic concerns were cited as the reasons for not holding the fair, according to the organization.

“It has been an honor to serve alongside dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who share our passion for celebrating the vibrant spirit of Maui,” Chumbley said. “While we are saddened by the decision to dissolve, we are grateful for the memories and relationships forged over the years.”

The Maui Fair Parade kicks off the annual event in 2016 as it makes its way down Kaahumanu Avenue.
