'Lahaina Spirit' book signing set for April 21
Maui artist Jordanne Perkins will hold a book signing and reading of her book, "Lahaina Spirit," from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 21 at Jordanne Gallery in Makawao.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase, along with Lahaina-themed specialty items.
Perkins painted 45 paintings in 52 days to create the 164-page coffee table book. "This book was a labor of love," she said. "I truly felt a calling that I was supposed to paint these paintings of Lahaina to keep its spirit alive. My hope is that this project will continue to remind us that Lahaina's spirit is within each one of us and hope that the restoration of Lahaina will be decided with the spirit of Lahaina in mind."
A portion of the proceeds from the first 1,000 books sold were donated to the Maui Strong Fund. A portion of the proceeds from the next 500 copies sold will be donated to the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, according to Perkins's website.

Lahaina career fair to be held April 4
The inaugural Lahaina Career Fair and Pop-Up Makeke will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, at the Lahaina Civic Center.
There will be 40 employer and resource booths, locally made items for sale, door prizes, food trucks, and networking opportunities. Admission is free.

Nonprofit director to address Rotarians
ProjectVisionHawaii Executive Director Darrah Kauhane will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea's meeting at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday. April 10, in the Kihei Lutheran Church meeting room.
Kauhane will discuss ProjectVisionHawaii's plans for the Pu?uhonua o Nene Shelter. The shelter opened in September 2023 as a temporary shelter for wildfire survivors who were homeless pre-disaster.

Program to benefit Women Helping Women
Women Helping Women has been selected as the beneficiary of Ohana Fuels' "Fuel Up. Do Good" program for the months of April, May and June.
A portion of the proceeds from every gallon of gasoline purchased at Ohana Fuels locations on Maui will be donated to the nonprofit. "Women Helping Women is excited to be part of Ohana Fuels' 'Fuel up. Do good.' campaign throughout the months of April, May, and June," said Women Helping Women Executive Director Sanoe Ka'aihue. "Funds raised will help us further our mission to support domestic violence victims and their children to lead safe and healthy lives. Let's make every gallon count."
Conservation training to be offered April 11
A free Maui Mauka Conservation Awareness Training will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 11, at the Ocean Science Discovery Center in Ma'alaea.
The training aims to educate tour operators and guides about native ecosystems and species found in Hawaii and the projects that help to conserve them.
The guest speaker will be Sara Tekula, executive director of the Kula Community Watershed Alliance.
Presentations will also be given by representatives from the Maui Invasive Species Committee, East Maui Watershed Partnership and Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project.
