Aloha Maui Pride announces pride week lineup

KAHULUI–Aloha Maui Pride, in partnership with Maui AIDS Foundation, invites everyone to come out to a week of events celebrating Maui’s LGBTQ+ community, their allies, and anyone who supports inclusion, diversity, and rainbows, the organization announced in a press release Tuesday.
According to Aloha Maui Pride, pride week this year will have something for everybody, ranging from a party with dance music on a boat to a family-focused evening of tie-dying, button-making and other youth crafts.
The highlight of the week will be the Pride Festival on Saturday June 8th, at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Market Street in Wailuku.
This will be the first year that the organization will hold Pride Week in June, the official Pride Month, and the first time the festival will be held on Market Street.
There’ll be a main stage with hula performances, musicians, drag queens, and other performers with seating available. Along the street will be local vendor booths, non-profit organizations, public agencies, and food trucks, with local businesses participating in the street fair event.
It’s a free and family-friendly event, with free parking in the County parking garage.
June 1 will feature the pride boat party at Pacific Whale Foundation, Maalaea Harbor Shops, from 5-7 p.m. (check-in 4:15p.m). The ticket price includes appetizers, alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks, and high-energy music. Tickets available by pre-sale only at alohamauipride.org.
June 2 will feature a pride brunch At Nalu’s South Shore Grill, 1280 S. Kihei Rd., Kihei, 8-10:30 a.m. Enjoy a special Pride buffet breakfast and the traditional opening blessing given by Kahu Alalani, Kuhina Hawaiian Blessings.
June 5 will feature the Maui Mayor’s pride blessing and the raising of the flag at the County Building, 200 S. High St., Wailuku, 10-10:30 a.m. (meet the flagpole at 9:45 a.m.). A no-host lunch will follow the blessing at 808 Old Town Bistro, 2051 Main St., Wailuku.
June 7 will feature the pride youth and family fun night at Kalama Park Pavilion, 4-8 p.m.. Bring the kids and teens for roller skating, a bouncy house, or create a tie dye shirt, make some buttons, have face make-up fun, and more. Pizza will be served free, as long as supplies last.
June 8 will feature several activities including a pride hike at Waihe’e Coastal trail, 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Meet at Queen Kaahumanu Starbucks to carpool at 8:30 a.m. Easy to moderate hike. More information available by emailing mauihiking@gmail.com.
The pride parade will take place on June 8 at Market Street between Main & Vineyard Streets, Wailuku, from 4-8 p.m. Street festival with a main stage full of local performers, vendor booths, food trucks, with local businesses, restaurants, and bars offering pride specials. This is a free event and parking is available at the County garage (entrance on Church St.). Open to all and family friendly.
June 8 will culminate with the pride after party at Maalaea Harbor Shops, 8 p.m.-12 a.m. The dance party will be complete with DJs and drink specials. Tickets are $10 pre-sale at daplaygroundmaui.com or $20 at the door.
Pride week will conclude on June 9 with the pride bbq and potluck at Kamaole III Beach Park, Kihei from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Hamburgers, chicken, veggie burgers will be provided. Bring a snack or dish to share. Bring your beach chair and drinks and talk story under a canopy. A Hawaiian blessing will close the week of events.
