A cesspool virtual Zoom town hall meeting has been announced Thursday, May 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., according to Council Chair Alice Lee.
"Many cesspools in Central Maui are classified as high priority by the Department of Health meaning they pose a threat to the health of nearshore waters, coral reefs, and drinking water," the announcement of the meeting stated.
Join the virtual meeting to learn about cesspool conversion loan and grant opportunities, the cesspool conversion process, cesspool-related laws and conversion technology options, and future wastewater workforce opportunities.
A question and answer session with wastewater experts and legislators will take place during the virtual meeting.
Several key speakers will participate in the meeting including Senator Troy Hashimoto, Representative Mahina Poepoe, Michele Chouteau McLean of AICP, and Council Chair Alice L. Lee. Additional guest speakers will include Kim Falinski PhD, PE, of the Nature Conservancy, and Robin S. Knox, of Water Quality Consulting, Inc.
The Zoom link and information will be posted (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/central-maui-cesspool-solutions-with-wai-tickets-899357862577?aff=oddtdcreator) and sent out to registrants a few days before the event. Virtual attendees are encouraged to register for the free event online at the link above where the zoom link will be posted prior to the meeting.
The Town Hall will begin with an educational presentation and end with a question and answer session with our panel of experts. Please type and submit any questions you might have in the Zoom meeting chat so that we can answer them during the question and answer section. The WAI team will also send a follow-up email after the Town Hall with a copy of the recording, presentation slide deck and FAQs for your convenience.
