Davida Malo Day organizers to speak at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting

KAHULUI–On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Eva and Danny Palakiko will be the speakers at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting. They will share information about this annual event held recently at Lahainaluna High School.
Davida Malo is one of the honored scholars who graduated from Lahainaluna. The tradition of Lā Davida Malo (Davida Malo Day) has just celebrated its 55th anniversary. Rich in tradition and culture, the evening celebrated the history of Lahaina and its precious places. The theme of “I Ka Malu ‘Ulu O Lele” Under the shade of the ‘ulu tree of Lele.” Eva and Danny will share details of this cultural and historical event. A proposal presented by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset resulted in the Rotary D5000 District Foundation Wildfires Relief Fund contributing $10,000 to assist with expenses for two years.
Danny and Eva have been married for 33 years. Proud parent of six keiki and seven mo’opuna. The live on kuleana land in Kaua’ula Valley in Lahaina. Eva is the Kumu of Hawaiian Language and Papa Hula at Lahainaluna High School and Danny is a professional musician whose expertise in music is invaluable to the Boarders’ Chorus.
The meeting will be held at the Aston Paki Maui Resort Ali’i meeting room. Social begins at 5 p.m. and the meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. A light dinner will be served. To make reservations to attend the meeting please email Joanne Laird at: mamalrd01@gmail.com.
